Drug Take Back Event to be Held in Montgomery
(April
5, 2011) -- The Alabama Pharmacy Association (APA) recognizes the
importance of medication safety and wants everyone to understand that it is
important to remove potentially dangerous controlled substances from our
nation’s medicine cabinets.
“APA wants to stress the importance of keeping you and your family
members safe by disposing of expired, or unused medications,” says APA
Executive Director Louise Jones.
The APA has planned a Drug Take Back event with the Montgomery Police
Department to increase awareness about medication safety. On April 14, from
10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., people can return unused or expired medications
during the event to be held on the steps of the state capitol in downtown
Montgomery.
Everyone needs to take advantage of this opportunity and empty their
medicine cabinets of expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled
substances and other medications. These drugs are a potential source of
supply for illegal use and an unacceptable risk to public health and safety.
Protect your loved ones and your community. The APA encourages you to get
involved - Take it Back!
The APA is interested in educating the public about medication safety,
poison prevention, disease prevention, drug interactions, compliance and
other topics related to proper use of medicine and good health. If you are
interested in having someone speak to a group, please contact the APA
office.
The Alabama Pharmacy Association is a nonprofit professional organization
with over 1,600 members statewide. The APA offers continuing education
programs for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, and members take a
leading role in lobbying for pharmacy at the state and national level. The
APA was established in 1881 and is the oldest professional organization for
pharmacy in the state. APA members represent all practices of pharmacy and
are committed to their profession and their patients. |
