Montgomery Police Charge Suspects In Weekend Homicides

(Feb. 6, 2012) -- The Montgomery Police Department has arrested two local suspects in connection with two city homicides, both of which occurred during the past weekend. Police officers also are seeking additional suspects in one of the shooting deaths.

Justin McCall

MPD charged Justin McCall, 27, with murder in connection with the city’s first homicide of 2012, the death of Garry Blackwell, 46. Officers located Blackwell at about 4:15 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at a residence in the 100 block of North Haardt Drive. Blackwell had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following his arrest, McCall was transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility, where he was being held on a $60,000 bond.

MPD has secured murder warrants naming two additional suspects in Blackwell’s death. Eric Johnson, 28, of Letohatchee and Ellis Diggs, 27, of Montgomery are both being sought in connection with this homicide. Police ask anyone with knowledge of Diggs’ and Johnson’s whereabouts to contact MPD at 334.241.2651, Secret Witness at 334.262.4000, or CrimeStoppers at 334.215.STOP (7867).

MPD also charged Quashaun Brazery, 26, in the city’s second 2012 homicide, the death of Fernando Parks, 36. Police located Parks with a gunshot wound to the head at approximately 8:40 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, in a motel room in the 400 block of Airbase Boulevard. Parks was transported to Baptist Medical Center South, where he was pronounced dead at 11:35 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 5.

Brazery was charged at 1 a.m. Feb. 6 on a warrant for attempted murder initially sought by MPD, and the charge subsequently was upgraded to murder. He was placed in the Montgomery County Detention Facility, where he was being held under a $75,000 bond.

The investigations into both homicides are continuing, and no further information is available at this time.

Note: A criminal charge is an accusation. The defendants are assumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
