CrimeStoppers Honors 7 Law Enforcement Officers and Wetumpka High School
Youth Watch Program at Annual Luncheon
(Nov. 3, 2005) -- Central Alabama CrimeStoppers, a
non profit organization, honored seven law enforcement officers at
CrimeStoppers annual award luncheon November 3, at Embassy Suites in
Montgomery.
One law enforcement officer from each of the seven
agencies served by Central Alabama CrimeStoppers was recognized for their
tremendous service and dedication in protecting our community. The
officers being honored were: Deputy Ty Jones from Autauga County
Sheriff’s Office, Investigator Ron Boles with Prattville Police
Department, Sgt. Chris Zeigler of Elmore County Sheriff’s Office, Sgt.
Johnny Montgomery with Millbrook Police Department, Cpl. Greg Thompson
with Wetumpka Police Department, Lt. George Beaudry with Montgomery County
Sheriff’s Office, and Cpl. B.W. Bartlett with Montgomery Police
Department. Each officer was given a Law Enforcement Officer of the Year
award from CrimeStoppers, a $25 gift certificate from Gulf States
Distributors, and a $25 gift certificate from Azar’s Uniforms.
Chuck Milner, President of Montgomery Area
CrimeStoppers Board of Directors, says the organization wanted to do
something special to recognize these officers. “So many of our law
enforcement officers go unrecognized for all they do in serving and
protecting our streets and neighborhoods. This is our way of letting them
know we appreciate all their hard work and dedication."
Also honored at
the luncheon was Wetumpka High
School’s Youth Crime Watch program. Youth Crime Watch is a youth-led
program where the students take an active role in addressing problems such
as crime, violence, and drugs. Wetumpka High School’s Youth Crime Watch
has been a big success and was honored by Youth
Crime Watch of America at their National Youth Crime Watch
Conference in Miami earlier this year.
Leura Canary, U.S. Attorney Middle District of
Alabama, was tbe keynote speaker at the award luncheon. Canary’s office
has helped fund Scholastic CrimeStoppers in central Alabama through
Project Safe Neighborhood’s Alabama ICE (Isolate Criminal Element).
